SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE 2.
In the Previous Episode of this topic, we talked briefly about sexual assault and rape, giving a brief explanation and statistics using the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOOVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and we promised to discuss further on what happens to rape victims and what does the Ghanaian Government don’t to put this act in check.

The effects of rape can include both the initial physical trauma
as well asleep psychological trauma. Although rape victims commonly report
injuries and issues with their-reproductive health after the sexual assault,
the most common effects of rape involve mental health concerns and diminished
social confidence.
Victim experience both short and long term psychological effects
of rape. The most common consequence of rape is self-blame and other
psychological effects of rape include:
-Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)- feeling of severe
anxiety and stress.
-Flashbacks
-Sleep disorders
-Eating disorder
-Guilt of distrust of others
-Anger
-Feeling of personal powerlessness.
AFTERMATH OF RAPE.
The aftermath of rape involves a cluster of chronic physical and
psychological effects. Victim needs immediate and close care that will help
them address the effects of rape as they become apparent whilst victims of
extremely violent rape or those who were assaulted repeatedly or at a very
young age, may need treatment for the rest of their lives.
PREVENTION.
-Trust your instincts, do not feel pressured to spend time alone
with a person that makes you feel uncomfortable
-During visitation never leave your drink unattended, most time
choose to drink water instead of alcohol
-know your sexual rights and establish physical and intimate
boundaries from the start
-Use firm language if things start to go far. Stay close to
friends. Watch out for them and ask them to watch out for you
-Don’t turn-up for every invitation
In Ghana Sexual assault
is a felony so know your place.
